How much do you Noah 'bout Noah?

It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith. Hebrews 11:7

How much do you know about Noah? (True or false)

  • God had made the world and it was originally very good! (Genesis 1:31)
  • God made man, including Noah and his family in His own image (Genesis 1:26-28)
  • The serpent tempted Adam & Eve to sin which brought all the evil in to the world (Genesis 3:1-7)
  • Noah was a friend of God when everyone else was not (Genesis 6:5-9)
  • Noah made the ark out of metal sheets (Genesis 6:14)
  • Noah had to go and get the animals (Genesis 6:20;7:14-16)
  • Noah and his family invited their friends
  • When the rain started God shut the door (Genesis 7:16)
  • It rained for 40 years (Genesis 7:4,17)
  • The animals ate each other on the Ark
  • Noah had his birthday on the Ark (Genesis 7:6;8:13)
  • The ark was the only way to be saved from death—now we have Jesus! (John 14:6)
  • The flood water washed death from the earth, the resurrection of Jesus gives us life (1 Pet. 3:18-21)
  • The elephant was the first animal to leave (Genesis 8:6-12)
  • Life today is like the days of Noah (Matt. 24:27-29)
  • After the flood waters had dried up a bit Noah had a party (Genesis 8:13-20)
  • God said this might happen again (Genesis 9:12-17)
  • We will see Noah in heaven! (Hebrews 11:7)

Did Noah invite his friends and wider family? I’m pretty sure he did. The apostle Peter describes him as a ‘preacher of righteousness’ (2 Peter 2:5). You can imagine the desperate banging on the door after God had shut in once the waters started to rise.

Did the animals eat each other? No idea! Not even for food since Noah and family were vegetarian until after the flood. See Genesis 1:29-30 and compare with chapter 9:1-4.

One thing is for sure though—God will never flood the world again. Not with water anyway! As we saw last time he floods it with the blood of his Son. When you see the rainbow, think of Christ—his red blood shed for us, what we might become the purple-clothed royal sons and daughters of God.
